Jammu: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Tuesday expressed solidarity with students protesting in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities, corruption and paper leaks in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
Addressing a press conference, Sharma said the students’ agitation was a demand for justice, transparency and accountability. He said the protests had remained peaceful and that the grievances raised by students should be addressed through a credible and transparent process.
The press conference was attended by BJP National Secretary and Jammu South MLA Narinder Singh, besides party spokespersons Vikram Malhotra and Zorawar Jamwal.
Sharma supported the students’ demand for an independent investigation, including a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, saying it would help establish the facts, restore confidence in the recruitment process and ensure deserving candidates are not deprived of opportunities.
“Any allegation of paper leaks, irregularities or manipulation in recruitment examinations strikes at the very foundation of that trust. These concerns must be investigated impartially and transparently,” he said.
The LoP also criticised the alleged use of force against protesting students, saying peaceful protesters raising legitimate concerns should not face lathicharge or coercive measures. He called for dialogue and engagement between the administration and the students.
Sharma also questioned the Congress and its alliance partners over their alleged silence on the issue, accusing them of adopting a selective approach towards student movements.
He urged students to continue raising their concerns through peaceful and constitutional means and called upon the Jharkhand administration to address their grievances through a credible mechanism and ensure an impartial and time-bound investigation into the allegations.
