Baramulla: Agriculture, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Javid Ahmad Dar on Saturday attended the final of the Legends Cricket League at Safi Sports Stadium, Rohama, and called for greater participation of youth in sports.
The title clash was played between Irfan Sports Legends, Rohama and TNC Legends, Taleemngner, drawing a large gathering of players, sports enthusiasts and local residents.
Addressing the gathering, Dar praised the organisers for promoting cricket and providing a platform for young talent. He said sports play an important role in channelising the energy of youth towards constructive activities and helping them stay away from social evils.
The minister urged young people to actively participate in sporting activities, saying sports foster physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, leadership qualities and a healthy competitive spirit. He stressed the need for creating more opportunities at the grassroots level to identify and nurture sporting talent.
Congratulating both finalists, Dar commended the teams for their sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the tournament and wished the players success in their future sporting pursuits.
Highlighting the importance of sports infrastructure, he said the government is committed to strengthening facilities at the grassroots level and assured support for the development and upgradation of Safi Sports Stadium to provide better amenities for local sportspersons.
