Srinagar: Paras Health Srinagar has performed an advanced endoscopic procedure to treat a patient with a complex pancreatic condition and has crossed the milestone of 600 Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) procedures, the hospital said.
According to the hospital, its gastroenterology team carried out an Endoscopic Ultrasound-guided drainage of a 19×12 cm walled-off pancreatic necrosis (WON) using a HOT-AXIOS stent. The patient had developed the pancreatic collection following severe pancreatitis.
The hospital said the condition was treated through a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure under minimal sedation, avoiding the need for open surgery.
Dr Aadil Ashraf, Associate Director, Gastroenterology, said advanced therapeutic endoscopy offers a minimally invasive alternative to surgery or image-guided percutaneous drainage for selected patients with complex pancreatic disorders.
He said the department has been regularly performing advanced EUS-guided therapeutic procedures for pancreatic and biliary diseases and has now completed more than 600 Endoscopic Ultrasound procedures, which he described as one of the highest volumes in the region.
Dr Ashraf also said the hospital is the largest procurer of Boston Scientific EUS hardware in Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting the volume and complexity of procedures performed at the centre.
