Srinagar: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Kashmir has apprehended a Punjab-based drug peddler and recovered 100 grams of heroin from his possession at Lasjan, Nowgam, Srinagar, police said Thursday.

It said acting upon specific information regarding the movement of a drug peddler carrying narcotic contraband, a team of ANTF launched a targeted operation at Lasjan flyover and arrested one Lovepreet Singh, son of Balbir Singh of Sunder Nagar Mustafa-abad, Batala, Amritsar, Punjab. Heroin weighing 100 grams was recovered from his possession.

A case under section 8/21 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station ANTF Kashmir, and further investigation initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband, its intended destination, and the wider network involved in its transportation and distribution, police said.

Meanwhile, police also arrested two drug peddlers and recovered substantial quantities of cannabis-like contraband in two separate operations in Pulwama.

During naka checking at Monghama, approximately 1.629 kilograms of cannabis ‘chura’ and four cannabis sticks weighing approximately 46 grams were recovered from one Amir Ahmad Chopan of Monghama, Pulwama.

During checking at Yader, police recovered 1.472 kilograms of cannabis powder from the possession of Iftikhar Hussain Bhat of Renzipora, Awantipora.

Cases have been registered for further investigation.
