Jammu: Managing Director of Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) Gurpal Singh on Sunday reviewed power restoration works in the flood-affected districts of Rajouri and Poonch, directing officials to expedite repairs and restore electricity supply in all affected areas.

During the visit, Singh inspected restoration works in Muradpur, Salani, Bela, Fatehpur and Saj in Rajouri district, where the power distribution network was damaged by recent flash floods and heavy rainfall. He also reviewed efforts to restore electricity to key Public Health Engineering (PHE) installations, including Sangam, Nabbah, New Bela, Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and Old Bela, stressing that uninterrupted power supply to drinking water schemes remained a priority.

In Poonch, the Managing Director visited Sanai, Dhundak, Lassana, Marhote, Lathung Bridge, Surankote town and Potha to assess restoration work. He also inspected the flood-hit Mohra Bachhai area, where flash floods damaged roads and eroded the foundations of electricity poles, disrupting the power distribution network.

Singh reviewed restoration of the 33 kV and 11 kV network, including receiving stations, damaged poles, conductors and distribution transformers. He appreciated the efforts of engineers and field staff engaged in restoration work despite difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.

Later, chairing a review meeting at Dak Bungalow, Poonch, Singh directed officers to continue restoration work on a priority basis. He instructed the Chief Engineer (Distribution) to ensure timely supply of poles, conductors, transformers and other materials required at affected sites.

He also directed Executive Engineers to utilise the services of turnkey contractors engaged under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and Distribution Augmentation–Jammu Green Urban Areas (DA-JGUA) works to speed up restoration and minimise disruption.

Singh said restoring power supply to affected villages and critical installations, including hospitals and drinking water supply schemes, remained the corporation’s top priority, adding that restoration operations would continue until normal electricity supply is fully restored.
