Baramulla: A 12-member family escaped unhurt after their house collapsed in Barnate village of Boniyar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district following days of heavy rainfall, officials said on Sunday.
The house belonged to Noor Din, son of Ghulam Qadir. Officials said the structure developed severe cracks before collapsing due to continuous rain that had weakened its foundation.
According to officials, all 12 family members were inside the house when cracks appeared. They were evacuated to safety before the structure caved in, preventing any loss of life or injuries.
Officials from the Revenue Department and the local administration visited the spot and initiated an assessment to determine the extent of the damage and process relief and rehabilitation measures.
Local residents said the family suffered substantial losses, with household belongings and property worth lakhs damaged in the collapse. They appealed to the district administration to provide immediate relief, temporary shelter and financial assistance.
Officials said support would be extended to the affected family in accordance with the prescribed norms after the damage assessment is completed.
