Srinagar: Teams of the Home Guards, Civil Defence (HG/CD) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Saturday carried out multiple search, rescue and public safety operations across Jammu and Kashmir amid continued rainfall.
Officials said search operations for missing persons continued at Murrah-Kalai in Poonch and downstream of Dhanma in Rajouri.
In Srinagar, SDRF and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel conducted search operations for the third consecutive day in the Jhelum at Sempora, Pantha Chowk.
In Kishtwar, SDRF teams recovered an unidentified body from the Chenab River at Puchhal.
A search and rescue operation was also launched at Bhattian in Thanamandi, Rajouri, after a structure collapsed. In coordination with police and local residents, rescue teams evacuated two injured persons and recovered one body from the debris.
In Shopian, SDRF personnel rescued several people stranded in the Rambiara Nallah at Padpawan Bohrihalan after the water level rose suddenly. All those stranded were shifted to safer locations. No casualties were reported, although some tents were damaged, officials said.
At the Tawi River Front in Jammu, SDRF teams remained on alert following the resumption of registration for the annual Shri Amarnathji Yatra to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
As part of public outreach, disaster awareness programmes on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), basic life support (BLS), first aid and rescue techniques were organised at Bijbehara in Anantnag.
Officials said joint mock drills simulating improvised explosive device (IED), bomb blast and terrorist attack scenarios were also conducted at Tikri and Chenani as part of preparedness for Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2026.
The authorities also appealed to the public to avoid riverbanks and unnecessary travel during inclement weather and to report emergencies promptly. They said all HG/CD and SDRF units remain on alert to respond to emergencies across Jammu and Kashmir.
