Rajouri: Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti on Monday visited the flash flood-affected Bella area of Rajouri district to assess the situation and review relief and restoration measures.
The two officers directed field functionaries to expedite restoration works, including clearance of damaged road stretches and restoration of essential services to facilitate an early return to normalcy.
They also inspected the Relief and Rehabilitation Centre at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Rajouri, where they reviewed arrangements for displaced families. Interacting with officials and affected residents, they directed the district administration to ensure adequate shelter, food, drinking water, medical care, clothing and other essential facilities.
The Divisional Commissioner assured the affected families of all possible government assistance and instructed the concerned departments to remain responsive to their needs until the situation normalises.
Later, the Divisional Commissioner and the IGP chaired a review meeting to assess the flood situation and the preparedness of various departments.
According to an official statement, the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police were directed to identify flood-prone locations for timely evacuation of residents, while the district administration was asked to make effective use of public address systems and sirens to alert people about rising water levels.
The Chief Planning Officer was asked to coordinate with the Power Development Department for early restoration of electricity, while the Irrigation and Flood Control Department was directed to keep flood-control machinery ready and continuously monitor water levels. The Chief Medical Officer was instructed to ensure the availability of medicines, medical staff, ambulances and other healthcare facilities at the block level.
The Divisional Commissioner directed all departments to remain on high alert, maintain round-the-clock coordination and ensure a swift response to any emerging situation to minimise the impact of flash floods.
