Budgam: Eighty-seven alleged drug peddlers were arrested, properties worth ₹1.5 crore were attached and six illegal structures demolished during the 100-day Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in Budgam, the district administration said on Tuesday.
The campaign, launched across Jammu and Kashmir on April 11, also saw the detention of nine alleged drug offenders under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. A total of 89 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered during the period, officials said.
According to the administration, six movable and immovable properties worth around ₹1.5 crore belonging to alleged drug peddlers were attached, while six illegally constructed properties were demolished.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan said the campaign against drug trafficking would continue with full vigour and appealed to parents, educational institutions, community leaders and the public to contribute towards making the district drug-free.
The administration said extensive awareness and outreach programmes, including seminars, essay and painting competitions, interactive sessions, door-to-door campaigns, debates, plantation drives, cleanliness drives and sports events, were organised across the district during the campaign. A Pad Yatra held on May 5 also formed part of the awareness drive.
As part of administrative action, authorities recommended flagging of 136 Aadhaar numbers, cancellation of two passports, suspension of one arms licence and one driving licence, and suspended or blacklisted the registration of 20 vehicles.
To curb the alleged illegal sale of narcotic substances through medical outlets, officials suspended 47 pharmacy licences, sealed 30 unlicensed medical shops and cancelled three drug licences. Four FIRs were also registered for alleged violations of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
The administration said six FIRs were registered against persons accused of illegal poppy cultivation, while illicit poppy and cannabis crops spread over more than 56 kanals of land were destroyed.
On the rehabilitation front, the Deputy Commissioner said 48 patients were undergoing treatment through OPD and IPD services at the district Drug De-addiction Centre, while 12 recovered individuals had been rehabilitated under self-employment schemes during the campaign. At the Addiction Treatment Facility, 93 patients were registered and 3,450 psychological and clinical follow-up sessions were conducted.
The administration further said nearly 100 CCTV cameras had been installed at identified drug hotspots in coordination with the police. Awareness activities were also carried out through eight Nasha Mukt Panchayats, five Urban Local Bodies, 296 Youth Clubs and 285 Mahila Samitis to strengthen community participation in the anti-drug campaign.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment, the Deputy Commissioner said the campaign against drug trafficking would continue alongside efforts focused on awareness, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
