Rajouri: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma on Tuesday said around 230 people have been rescued from flash flood-affected areas of the district, while relief and restoration operations are continuing on a war footing.
Addressing a press conference, the Deputy Commissioner said four persons were initially reported missing. Three bodies have been recovered, while search operations are underway to trace the remaining missing person.
He said multi-agency rescue operations involving the SDRF, NDRF, Police, Indian Army and other departments are being carried out in close coordination.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, nearly 450 people are currently staying in relief centres, where the administration is providing food, drinking water, bedding, healthcare and other essential facilities.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives, Sharma said immediate admissible relief had been provided to the bereaved families and assured that all possible assistance would continue.
He appealed to the public to follow weather advisories, avoid venturing near rivers, streams and other vulnerable areas, and urged parents to ensure children do not enter flood-prone locations during adverse weather.
The Deputy Commissioner said restoration of roads, power supply and drinking water was being undertaken on a war footing. A detailed assessment of damage to private property and public infrastructure would be carried out, and assistance would be provided as per the prescribed norms.
He advised people to contact the District Control Room on 01962-295895 for emergency assistance, adding that all departments remain on high alert to respond to any emergency.
Later, Sharma interacted with media persons and sought their feedback to ensure comprehensive coverage of all affected areas.
