Congress expresses grief over flood deaths, seeks relief and rehabilitation for affected families

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Sunday expressed grief over the loss of lives and property caused by flash floods in Poonch and Rajouri districts and urged the government to ensure prompt rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures for the affected people.

In a statement, JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra, AICC general secretary and Congress Legislature Party leader G.A. Mir, working president Raman Bhalla, former MP Choudhary Lal Singh, former minister Mula Ram, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Rajouri MLA Iftikhar Ahmed, former minister Shabir Ahmed Khan, Poonch District Congress Committee president Shah Nawaz Choudhary, former Legislative Council chairman Jahangir Mir and Rajouri DCC president Ashok Sharma expressed concern over the devastation caused by the flash floods.

The leaders urged the administration to intensify rescue operations, provide relief and rehabilitation to affected families and take precautionary measures in view of the experience of heavy rains and floods in the region during previous years.

They also conveyed their condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and called on the government to provide adequate ex gratia relief and compensation to the victims’ families.

Meanwhile, AICC general secretary in charge of Jammu and Kashmir affairs Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain also expressed grief over the loss of lives in Poonch and Rajouri. He extended his sympathies to the affected families and urged the government to ensure effective rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures.

According to the statement, Hussain reviewed the situation with the JKPCC leadership and party functionaries from the affected districts and asked local leaders to remain in touch with the administration and assist people during the ongoing relief efforts.
