Bandipora: The body of a 10-year-old boy, who had gone missing after being swept away by the Kishanganga River in Gurez Valley earlier this month, was recovered on Saturday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Babar Bashir, a resident of the Tulail area of Bandipora district.
According to officials, the boy was swept away by the river while bathing near Sheikhpora in Tulail on July 6. Since then, police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, civil administration officials and local volunteers had been conducting an extensive search operation.
The body was spotted near the dam site in the Kanzalwan area on Saturday afternoon and was retrieved by police and rescue teams.
Officials said the body has been shifted to Sub-District Hospital, Dawar, for medico-legal formalities. It will be handed over to the family after completion of the legal procedures.
The incident had prompted an extensive search operation involving multiple agencies and local volunteers over the past 12 days, officials added.
