SRINAGAR: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Wednesday reviewed preparations for the third edition of the Chinar Book Festival, scheduled to be held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) from July 18 to 26.
The nine-day festival is being organised jointly by the National Book Trust (NBT), the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) and the district administration.
Chairing a meeting at the DC Office Complex, Labroo reviewed arrangements for the literary event and stressed the need for close coordination among departments to ensure its smooth conduct.
He directed the concerned departments to make timely arrangements for participant mobilisation, transportation, sanitation and other logistics to facilitate seamless participation.
The Deputy Commissioner said the festival would provide a platform for readers, authors, publishers, artists and students while encouraging reading and promoting Jammu and Kashmir’s literary heritage.
Officials informed the meeting that the festival will feature book launches, author interactions, panel discussions, poetry recitations, storytelling sessions, cultural performances, workshops and activities for children. The event will also showcase local literary talent and promote reading and writing among youth.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Aadil Fareed, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Adeel Saleem, Joint Commissioner SMC Nuzhat Khurshid, SP Headquarters Umar Shah, Additional CEO SCCL Suhail-ul-Islam, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar and other senior officers from various departments.
Chief Convenor of the Chinar Book Festival Amit Wanchoo and National Book Trust coordinator Shobha Kapoor also attended the meeting.
