Condolence meetings continue for NC leader Sheikh Mustafa Kamal

SRINAGAR: Condolence meetings continued on Wednesday following the demise of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference additional general secretary and former minister Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, with people from different sections of society visiting his residence to offer condolences to the bereaved family.

According to a National Conference statement, delegations from across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh visited Dr Kamal’s residence on M.A. Road, Srinagar, and conveyed condolences to NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah, vice-president and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and other members of the Abdullah family.

The party said those who visited included senior NC leaders, Cabinet ministers, MLAs, former legislators, leaders of various political parties, opposition leaders, religious scholars, social activists, members of the business community, lawyers, civil society representatives, party workers and members of the public.

The visiting delegations paid tributes to Dr Kamal’s political career and public service and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, the statement said.

Special prayers, recitation of the Holy Quran and Fateha Khawani were also held during the day for the departed leader.

In the statement, Dr Farooq Abdullah thanked political leaders, social and religious organisations, party workers and members of the public for attending the funeral and offering condolences.

Describing his brother’s death as an irreparable loss for the family, the National Conference and the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Farooq Abdullah said Dr Kamal had devoted his life to public service, strengthening the party and upholding its ideals.

The party said a collective Fateha Khawani for Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at his graveyard on Gupkar Road in Sonwar.
