The appointments come as 16 councillors have moved a no-confidence resolution against Akhoon after he allegedly declined to step down on completion of his two-and-a-half-year tenure.

According to KNO, the arrangement between the National Conference and the Congress envisaged the CEC’s post being shared on a rotational basis, with the National Conference holding the position for the first two-and-a-half years, followed by the Congress for an equal tenure.
