Jammu: Authorities on Monday demolished the house of an alleged drug peddler and seized the property of another alleged narcotics trafficker in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district as part of an intensified crackdown on the drug trade.

Officials said both actions, carried out in separate cases, were done in accordance with the relevant legal provisions and were aimed at dismantling the financial infrastructure of narcotics networks.

Police, in close coordination with the civil administration, carried out a demolition drive at Bela Manohar in Chak Manga tehsil and demolished a single-storey residential house belonging to alleged drug peddler Raj Mohammad. The house, constructed on state land, was valued at about Rs 65 lakh, officials said.

“The accused is a notorious drug peddler and is involved in multiple cases registered under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act at Bahu Fort police station and Bus Stand police station in Jammu,” a spokesperson said.

In the second case, police attached property worth over Rs 43.62 lakh belonging to drug peddler Farman Ali alias “DC” at Rakh Barotian village in Vijaypur tehsil.

The action was taken under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, the police spokesperson said.

He added that during a police investigation against the accused, the residence valued at Rs 16.62 lakh and 38 cattle valued at Rs 27 lakh were identified as illegally acquired property.

“Ali is a notorious drug peddler who was booked under the PIT-NDPS Act and presently lodged in the Jammu district jail,” the spokesperson said
