Udhampur: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Shiv Kumar on Monday inaugurated the Play Nation Badminton League at the Mini Stadium in Udhampur.
The tournament is being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the Youth Empowerment Programme.
Additional District Development Commissioner Jugal Kishore attended the inaugural function as the guest of honour, while District Youth Services and Sports Officer Tarsem Singh presided over the event.
Addressing the participants, the DIG said sports provide a constructive avenue for youth and help steer them away from social evils and substance abuse. He congratulated the department for organising the league and urged participants to compete with discipline and sportsmanship.
According to an official statement, 458 players from across the district have registered for the tournament.
The ADDC highlighted the role of sports in promoting physical fitness, teamwork and discipline, while the District Youth Services and Sports Officer said the league aims to identify emerging talent, strengthen grassroots sports and encourage greater youth participation in constructive activities.
