Srinagar: More than 6,600 students will appear for the National Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) examination across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, with the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) putting in place arrangements at 97 examination centres.
According to a JKBOSE statement, candidates will compete for 1,068 scholarship slots allotted to the Union Territory under the centrally sponsored scheme.
Students who qualify will receive a scholarship of ₹12,000 per year for four years, beginning from Class IX.
The Board said the examination would be conducted in accordance with the prescribed standard operating procedures to ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of the scholarship examination.
It added that a multi-layer monitoring mechanism involving Chief Education Officers, Heads of Institutions, JKBOSE officials and invigilators has been put in place for the smooth conduct of the examination.
JKBOSE said the National Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme has played an important role in supporting meritorious students from economically weaker sections by providing financial assistance for secondary education. It added that several scholarship recipients have gone on to qualify competitive national-level examinations, including NEET and JEE.
