Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb on Wednesday reviewed ongoing afforestation, landscaping and urban greening works during an inspection of the Hari Parbat Range under the Urban Forestry Division.
According to an official statement, the Commissioner inspected the survival rate of plantations, maintenance of green spaces, beautification works and the overall condition of the area.
He directed the concerned officers to adopt scientific plantation management practices, ensure timely irrigation, protect newly planted saplings and make optimum use of available resources to improve the survival rate of plantations.
The Commissioner also stressed the importance of urban forests in improving air quality and enhancing ecological resilience, and instructed field staff to maintain cleanliness and ensure timely execution of ongoing works.
During the inspection, officials of the Urban Forestry Division briefed him on plantation programmes, maintenance schedules, survival monitoring and operational challenges.
The Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the field staff and called for intensified plantation drives to strengthen the city’s green infrastructure, the statement said.
The inspection was attended by the Joint Commissioner (Works), Divisional Forest Officer, Urban Forestry Division, and other senior officials of the SMC and the Urban Forestry Division.
