Srinagar: The successful conclusion of the inaugural Kashmir Champions Football League (KCFL) 2026 has marked a significant milestone in the sporting landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, with the tournament emerging as one of the largest and most professionally organised football competitions ever held in the Kashmir Valley.

Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, the league brought together footballers representing districts from across Kashmir, providing a first-of-its-kind competitive platform where local talent from every corner of the Valley competed under a structured league and knockout format. Throughout the competition, the league witnessed high-quality football, intense rivalries and exemplary sportsmanship, with participating teams displaying impressive skill, discipline and determination. The introduction of floodlit matches added a professional dimension to the tournament, enabling players to compete in a stadium-like atmosphere while offering spectators an enhanced footballing experience.

The league received an overwhelming response from football enthusiasts across the Valley. Attendance steadily increased as the tournament progressed, with the knockout stage witnessing unprecedented crowds at the TRC Synthetic Turf Football Ground in Srinagar. Thousands of football lovers turned up every evening to support their respective district teams and local football stars, while several prominent sports personalities also attended the matches.

The grand finale proved to be a fitting climax to the tournament, with the TRC ground packed to capacity as supporters from different districts travelled to Srinagar to witness the historic title clash. The huge turnout reaffirmed football’s enduring popularity in Kashmir and reflected the growing enthusiasm for professionally organised sporting events in the region.

The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council described the successful conduct of the tournament as a major step towards strengthening the football ecosystem in the Union Territory. It said the KCFL has established a strong foundation for the future of competitive football by providing talented players with a structured platform while promoting grassroots development and healthy competition among district teams.

The Council also acknowledged the collective contribution of players, coaches, referees, organising committees, volunteers, security personnel, medical teams, media organisations and football fans, whose efforts ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament.

The Sports Council said the overwhelming response to the inaugural edition has demonstrated that football continues to enjoy immense popularity in Kashmir and has reinforced the region’s reputation as one of India’s strongest footballing hubs. It added that the league has set a new benchmark for football competitions in Jammu and Kashmir by combining professional organisation, quality competition and strong public participation.

Encouraged by the success of the maiden edition, the Council announced its intention to make the Kashmir Champions Football League an annual sporting event aimed at nurturing local talent, strengthening grassroots football, expanding competitive opportunities for young players, and further establishing Jammu and Kashmir as a leading football destination in the country.
