Srinagar: Srinagar Police on Saturday dismissed as false a viral social media claim alleging that buses carrying pilgrims for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra were attacked and caught fire near Lal Chowk.

In an advisory, police said the claim was “entirely false” and clarified that no such incident had taken place.

Police also said a video being circulated on social media in connection with the pilgrimage was unrelated to the Amarnath Yatra and had been falsely linked to it.

The advisory urged the public not to create, circulate or share unverified or misleading content that could cause panic or disturb public order.

Police warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals found creating, sharing or reposting false information in violation of the applicable laws.

People were advised to rely only on information issued through official government and law enforcement channels and to verify facts before sharing content on social media.
