SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) Kashmir Provincial Committee on Friday finalised preparations for the party’s proposed protest in New Delhi, as well as programmes to observe the death anniversary of Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah on July 11 and Martyrs’ Day on July 13.
The meeting, held at the party headquarters, was chaired by NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and attended by senior party leaders, including Additional General Secretary and MP Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, Treasurer and MP Shammi Oberoi, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, ministers Sakina Itoo and Javed Ahmad Dar, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Women’s Wing president Shameema Firdous, senior leader Mubarak Gul, MLAs, district and zonal presidents and other office-bearers. The meeting was convened by Provincial President Showkat Ahmad Mir.
According to the party, participants unanimously endorsed NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah’s decision to organise a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, saying it would project the demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood at the national level.
The meeting reiterated the party’s position that the restoration of statehood is a constitutional and democratic right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It also referred to the Union Government’s assurances before Parliament and the Supreme Court regarding the restoration of statehood, stating that there should be no further delay in implementing the commitment.
The party said it would continue its democratic and peaceful campaign for the restoration of statehood and constitutional guarantees.
The meeting also finalised arrangements for observing the death anniversary of Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah on July 11 and Martyrs’ Day on July 13.
Party leaders paid tributes to Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah for her contributions to social welfare, education and public service, and remembered the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir, saying their sacrifices would continue to inspire future generations.
