JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President (Jammu) Ratan Lal Gupta on Friday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of running a misinformation campaign to divert public attention from what he described as its unfulfilled commitments, particularly the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

Addressing newly nominated women office-bearers of the District Jammu Urban Women’s Wing at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Gupta alleged that the BJP had failed to fulfil the promises on which it sought the people’s mandate.

The programme was organised by former MLA and National Conference Women’s Wing State Vice President Bimla Luthra.

Gupta claimed that despite promises of development, employment and prosperity, the BJP’s tenure left the region facing developmental stagnation and unfulfilled commitments.

“The people of Jammu were promised a new era of progress, but what they received instead was neglect, uncertainty and a widening trust deficit,” he alleged.

He said that instead of criticising the Omar Abdullah-led government, the BJP should explain the delay in the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

Gupta asserted that the National Conference government remains committed to addressing public issues, strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring balanced development across all regions of Jammu and Kashmir.

He urged the newly appointed women office-bearers to strengthen the party at the grassroots level, remain connected with the people and actively raise public issues.

Speaking on the occasion, Bimla Luthra said the Omar Abdullah-led government is committed to transparent, people-centric governance and equitable development across Jammu and Kashmir.

During the programme, Prabha Slathia was nominated Senior Vice President of the District Jammu Urban Women’s Wing, Kailash Jamwal and Baljeet Kour were appointed District Joint Secretaries, while Sunita Jamwal was nominated Cashier of the District Jammu Urban Women’s Wing.

Among those present were Provincial Secretary Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, District Secretary Jammu Urban Sardar Gurnam Singh, Jog Raj Slathia and Kewal Sharma.
