ANANTNAG: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday detained an alleged habitual drug peddler under the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act as part of its ongoing drive against drug trafficking.
Police identified the detainee as Faizan Misgar, son of Abdul Rashid Misgar, a resident of Mattan Chowk, Anantnag.
According to police, the detention order was executed after completing the required legal formalities, and the accused has been lodged in District Jail, Bhaderwah.
Police said the preventive detention was ordered in view of the accused’s repeated alleged involvement in drug peddling activities, which posed a serious threat to public health, particularly among the youth. It added that despite earlier legal action, his continued alleged involvement in the illicit narcotics trade necessitated preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act to prevent him from engaging in activities considered prejudicial to society.
