PAHALGAM/BANIHAL: Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Thursday reviewed security and logistical arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra during visits to Lambar Ground in Banihal and the Nunwan Base Camp and Nunwan Frisking Point in Pahalgam, directing officers to maintain round-the-clock vigilance and ensure a safe and hassle-free pilgrimage.
At Lambar Ground in Banihal, Ramban district, the DGP, accompanied by Special DGP (Coordination) Syed Javaid Mujtaba Geelani, IGP Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti and senior CRPF officers, inspected the arrangements made for the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
He was received by DIG Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range Shargun Shukla, Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan and SSP Ramban Arun Gupta.
The DGP chaired a review meeting with senior police officers and the district administration to assess security deployment, traffic regulation and other logistical arrangements for the safe movement of pilgrims through Ramban district. He expressed satisfaction with the preparedness and stressed the need for close coordination among all agencies to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the pilgrimage.
Later, at the Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam, Prabhat inspected accommodation and other facilities for pilgrims besides reviewing security arrangements, access control measures, deployment of police personnel, traffic regulation, emergency response preparedness and other logistical arrangements.
Interacting with police personnel, he appreciated their dedication and professionalism and urged them to maintain the highest standards of vigilance while adopting a pilgrim-friendly approach in the discharge of their duties.
The DGP also chaired a security review meeting attended by senior police officers to assess the prevailing security scenario, operational preparedness, deployment strategy, intelligence coordination, contingency planning and measures to strengthen the overall security grid along the Yatra route.
He directed officers to maintain round-the-clock alertness, ensure effective supervision at all levels and strengthen coordination among field formations to enable a prompt response to any contingency.
During his visit to the Nunwan Frisking Point, Prabhat reviewed security measures, access control mechanisms and arrangements for the safety and convenience of pilgrims. He instructed officers to ensure thorough yet pilgrim-friendly security checks while facilitating the smooth movement of yatris.
The DGP emphasised close coordination among all security agencies and the civil administration and appreciated the commitment of police personnel and other security forces deployed on Yatra duty, urging them to remain alert, responsive and compassionate so that every pilgrim feels safe and well assisted throughout the pilgrimage.
Earlier in the day, the first batch of 4,822 pilgrims was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu for the 57-day pilgrimage, which concludes on August 28.
