Srinagar: A six-year-old girl and an unidentified man were killed, while 31 other people were injured in separate road and railway accidents reported from Kupwara, Baramulla and Budgam districts on Wednesday.
In north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, six-year-old Habsa Ishaq of Khuramabad, Vodhpora, died after being run over by a dumper in the Vodhpora area. Police said the dumper (registration number JK02CR-6027) struck the child, who sustained critical injuries and died on the spot. The driver has been arrested, the vehicle seized and a case registered. Further investigation is underway.
In another incident, an unidentified man was killed after being run over by a train in the Zangam area of Pattan in Baramulla district. Police said the body was found on the railway track and no identification documents were recovered from the deceased. The body has been taken into custody for medico-legal formalities and will be handed over to the family after identification. Police have initiated legal proceedings and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, at least six people were injured after a dumper, a Scorpio and an Alto 800 collided on the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway at Zangam in the Pattan area of Baramulla district. The impact caused extensive damage to all three vehicles and temporarily disrupted traffic on the highway. Police and local residents shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their identities and the nature of their injuries were not immediately known. The damaged vehicles were later removed to restore traffic, and police have initiated an investigation.
In Budgam district, 25 people, including the driver, were injured after a Tata passenger bus met with an accident at Kawnar near Nasrullahpora. The bus was travelling from Beerwah to Budgam when the accident occurred. Local residents rescued the injured before emergency teams arrived and shifted them to Sub-District Hospital Budgam for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known. Police have taken cognisance of the incident and started an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
