CM meets former governor N N Vohra, Bihar Assembly speaker, Himachal minister

Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday met former governor of the erstwhile state, N N Vohra, here and exchanged views on a range of issues concerning the Union Territory.

“Chief Minister today met former Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri N N  Vohra, in Srinagar. They had a warm and engaging interaction and exchanged views on a range of issues concerning Jammu & Kashmir, drawing upon Shri Vohra’s vast administrative experience and deep understanding of the region,” the CM’s office said in a post on X.

It said chief minister’s advisor Nasir Aslam Wani was also present during the meeting.

Vohra was the governor from June 2008 to August 2018.

Abdullah also discussed issues of mutual interest and avenues for greater inter-governmental cooperation with the visiting Bihar assembly Speaker and Himachal Pradesh Education minister, spokesperson Friday.

He said the chief minister held separate meetings with the visitors on Thursday evening.

During the meeting with the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Prem Kumar, the two leaders exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.

The spokesperson said they emphasised strengthening inter-governmental cooperation, democratic institutions and the exchange of legislative best practices.

In a separate meeting, Himachal Pradesh Minister for School Education, Rohit Thakur, called on the chief minister at his residence.

The spokesperson said the meeting featured a constructive exchange of views on key education sector initiatives. The chief minister expressed confidence that such engagements would further deepen cooperation between Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in education and contribute to the adoption of innovative and effective educational practices, he said.

Abdullah underscored the importance of quality education as the cornerstone of sustainable development and highlighted the value of inter-governmental collaboration in improving learning outcomes.

Minister for Education, Sakina Itoo, Members of Legislative Assembly Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed and Mushtaq Guroo and other officials were also present during the meeting.
