Srinagar: Police in Ganderbal Saturday said they have arrested “notorious” drug peddler and recovered a “substantial quantity” of contraband substance from his possession.
A police spokesperson informed that during checking at Dar Mohallah Baba-Diryadin, police arrested Mohammad Qudus of Bihari Gunj, District Madhepura, Bihar, after 1.848 kilograms of Bhung Patri (marijuana-like substance) was recovered from his possession.
During preliminary enquiry, it surfaced that the accused was actively involved in peddling narcotic substances among local youth, thereby posing a serious threat to society and public health.
A case was registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act at Police Station Ganderbal. Investigation into the case is underway to ascertain backward and forward linkages of the drug network, police said.
