Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday disengaged a Special Police Officer (SPO) from service over allegations of corrupt practices, accumulation of disproportionate assets, and prolonged unauthorised absence from duty, officials said.
According to an order issued by Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma, SPO Rishi Sharma, a resident of Keerian in Kathua district, was found to be involved in “immoral and corrupt practices” based on information received from the district special branch.
The order stated that the SPO had allegedly amassed significant movable and immovable assets through such activities.
It further noted that he had failed to perform his assigned duties satisfactorily and had remained absent from duty without authorisation.
“In view of the findings, SPO Rishi Sharma has been disengaged from service in Kathua district with effect from June 12, 2026, the date on which he was marked unauthorisedly absent from Sarla outpost,” the order said.
The post held by the disengaged SPO has been declared vacant, it added.
SSP Sharma also directed the former SPO to immediately deposit all uniform articles, arms and ammunition issued to him.
