SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has booked five persons in connection with an alleged migrant land fraud case involving crores of rupees and conducted a house search in Budgam as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to officials, the search was carried out at Banit, Beerwah in Budgam district in connection with an FIR registered at Police Station EOW Kashmir under relevant provisions of law.
The case pertains to the alleged fraudulent sale of migrant land measuring 14 kanals and 3 marlas situated at Goshbugh Pattan in Baramulla district. Investigators said the land was allegedly sought to be sold through fake agreements, fraudulent means and a criminal conspiracy.
During the course of investigation, the Crime Branch found the involvement of five accused persons who allegedly duped the complainant of crores of rupees on the pretext of selling the land without obtaining the consent of its actual owner.
The house search was conducted as part of further investigation into the case and to gather evidence related to the alleged fraud.
Officials said further investigation is underway and additional aspects of the case are being examined.
The Economic Offences Wing has advised the public to remain vigilant against economic frauds and report any such incidents to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, Crime Branch J&K. Victims of financial fraud can also submit complaints through the official email address of the Economic Offences Wing.
