Srinagar: Police in Anantnag have registered six separate cases in a single day after six individuals tested positive for drug consumption, a police spokesperson informed Wednesday.
He said acting on specific inputs and during routine checks, police teams across the district apprehended the individuals under suspicious circumstances. They were subjected to medical examination using Rapid Drug Detection Kits.
The test reports of all six individuals returned positive for drug consumption, following which six separate FIRs were registered under Section 8/27 of the NDPS Act at respective police stations. Further investigation into each case is underway, police said.
Meanwhile, police also said they have arrested four drug peddlers in Anantnag, Baramulla & Ganderbal and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Anantnag, police intercepted and later arrested two persons — Faisal Ahmad Mir of Jogigund Achabal, and Mukhtar Ahmad Mir, of Shelipora Achabal — after 734 grams of cannabis powder-like substance and five grams of cannabis tikki-like substance were recovered from their possession.
In Baramulla, police arrested a drug peddler at Kutta Morh, Pattan. Identified as Harrison, son of Xaviour of Jogi Gate, Gujjar Nagar, Jammu, the arrested peddler’s personal search led to recovery of 14 grams of brown sugar-like substance concealed in a polythene bag from him.
Besides, cash amounting to ₹15,000 was also seized.
In Ganderbal, police arrested Nazir Ahmed Khan of Chunt Waliwar after approximately 2 Kg 172 grams was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Nazir Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Rasool Khan resident of Chunt Waliwar. In this regard, FIR No. 21/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Lar and investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and intended destination of the recovered contraband.
