Jammu: A 45-year-old man was hacked to death by his real brother over a long-standing land dispute in Rajouri district, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Behrote village of Thanamandi subdivision when Muneer Hussain, son of Hassan Mohammad, was constructing a wall on a piece of land near his house. His brother Mohammad Razaq, along with other family members, objected to the work, triggering a heated argument.
During the altercation, Razaq allegedly attacked Hussain on the head with an axe, leaving him gravely injured. He was rushed to Sub-District Hospital Thanamandi and later referred to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri, where he succumbed to his injuries, officials said.
The two brothers had been at loggerheads over the property for years, with family members claiming at least two earlier clashes had been reported between them over the same issue.
Police have registered a murder case at Police Station Thanamandi against Razaq and two other family members. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
“Further investigation is on,” a police officer said. (KNS)
