While the driver of the vehicle was carrying 30.34 grams of heroin, the rest of the contraband was recovered from his co-passenger.

The contraband and the vehicle were seized, and both the accused were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the spokesperson said, while declining to disclose the identities of the accused.

He added that further investigation is underway to ascertain the backward and forward linkages of the drug network and to identify other individuals involved in the illicit trade.

Police also arrested another drug peddler from SIDCO Chowk in Samba district following the recovery of 5.43 grams of heroin from his possession.

The drug peddler was identified as Sahil Kumar. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against him, the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, police in Anantnag also arreted two drug peddlers in separate operations.

During routine naka checking at Sarnal near Pehru Crossing, police arrested Shahid Rafiq Nanda of Nandpora,  after 1.198 kilograms of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.

At Kerikadal, one Mohammad Shafi Lone of K. Kalan, Bijbehara was arrested after 56 grams of cannabis-like substance along with ₹6,000 cash “believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking” were recovered from his possession, police said, adding that cases have been registered in both these instances.
