SRINAGAR: The Committee on Estimates of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday decided to review the status of languishing and ongoing developmental projects under the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department in its next meeting.
The decision was taken at the committee’s introductory meeting held at the Assembly Secretariat under the chairmanship of MLA Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi.
The meeting was attended by legislators Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Ali Mohammad Dar, Javid Hassan Baig, Mushtaq Guroo, Irshad Rasool Kar, Sajad Shaheen and Sunil Bhardwaj, besides Secretary J&K Legislative Assembly Manoj Kumar Pandit, Director General Budget Mohd Sultan Malik and senior Assembly officers.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi briefed members about the mandate and significance of the Committee on Estimates. He said the committee is responsible for examining original and revised budget estimates and reviewing expenditure incurred on various developmental projects to ensure accountability and fiscal discipline.
To strengthen its oversight role, the committee decided to convene a meeting with senior officers of the R&B Department during its next session. The review will focus on the funding, progress and current status of all ongoing and languishing projects being executed by the department.
During the deliberations, members put forth several suggestions aimed at improving the committee’s effectiveness and assured full cooperation for its smooth and productive functioning.
