DC Budgam reviews SANJY-2026 preparedness at Nowgam Railway Station

Budgam: Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan on Saturday visited Nowgam Railway Station to review arrangements being put in place for the smooth facilitation of pilgrims undertaking the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026).

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner inspected various facilities and assessed the preparedness of departments responsible for ensuring the smooth movement, convenience and safety of pilgrims arriving through the railway station.

He reviewed the functioning of Registration-cum-Facilitation Centres established at the station and examined arrangements related to registration and assistance for devotees. The DC also inspected accommodation facilities and other amenities being provided for pilgrims.

Athar Aamir Khan directed concerned officers to complete all arrangements well in advance and ensure that no inconvenience is caused to pilgrims during the Yatra period.

He instructed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure the availability of essential healthcare facilities throughout the pilgrimage and directed the Public Health Engineering Department to provide adequate drinking water facilities.

The Power Development Department was asked to repair all defunct lights at the railway station and adjoining areas, while concerned departments were directed to strengthen sanitation measures and maintain cleanliness to ensure a hygienic environment for pilgrims.

The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the Nodal Officer for SANJY-2026 in Budgam to install helpdesk kiosks on both sides of the boarding areas and ensure proper signage from deboarding points to the Registration-cum-Facilitation Centres for easy navigation and assistance to pilgrims.

Reiterating the administration’s commitment to providing a comfortable transit experience, the DC stressed the need for close coordination among all departments to ensure seamless arrangements and the successful conduct of the annual pilgrimage.

The visit was attended by senior officers, including the Additional District Development Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Joint Director Planning, Assistant Commissioner Development, Tehsildar BK Pora, Executive Engineer PDD Budgam and officials from various departments.
