Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has filed a review petition before the Supreme Court on the conduct of the Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET), Education Minister Sakina Itoo said on Saturday.

“As committed, the review petition has been filed before the Honourable Supreme Court. The government has consistently pursued this matter and remains fully committed to safeguarding the interests of our teachers,” Itoo said in a post on X.

The Supreme Court order last year mandates the TET for all in-service teachers of primary and upper primary classes, requiring them to qualify within two years to continue in service.

Earlier on May 30, the minister had said that the government has always acted responsibly and proactively on the TET issue concerning teachers in J&K and remains fully committed to safeguarding teachers’ interests.

“We have consistently taken up this matter and, more importantly, followed it up with concrete action. In the past as well, we have acted to protect the interests of our teachers,” she had said.

The government has already accorded sanction to file a review petition, with the Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs directing its Standing Counsel to initiate the necessary legal proceedings,” Itoo had said.

In February this year, the J&K School Education Department kept its order regarding the designation of Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE)/State School Standards Authority (SSSA) as the nodal agency for conducting TET in abeyance.
