Srinagar: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Friday organised a large-scale plantation drive across its units in Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts to mark World Environment Day, planting around 3,000 saplings as part of its environmental conservation efforts.

The plantation drives were carried out at various CRPF establishments, including the Group Centre and Sector Headquarters at Nishat, with personnel planting indigenous and environmentally suitable species to enhance green cover, promote biodiversity and strengthen ecological balance.

The main programme was held at Group Centre CRPF Srinagar under the guidance of Additional Director General, CRPF, J&K Zone, Rajesh Kumar, and was attended by Inspector General, CRPF Srinagar Sector, Pawan Kumar Sharma, senior officers, subordinate officers and jawans.

CRPF personnel across Central Kashmir actively participated in the initiative, reflecting the force’s commitment towards environmental protection alongside its role in maintaining internal security.

Addressing the gathering, senior officers highlighted the growing environmental challenges and stressed the importance of collective action towards afforestation and ecological conservation. Rajesh Kumar said the success of the plantation drive would not be measured solely by the number of saplings planted but by their survival and healthy growth over time.

He emphasised the need for regular care, watering, protection and monitoring of the saplings to ensure the long-term success of the initiative and reiterated that such drives would continue in the future.

The CRPF said adequate arrangements have been made for the upkeep and monitoring of the saplings to ensure their survival and growth.

The programmes concluded with participants taking a pledge to protect the environment, increase green cover and contribute towards building a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.
