Jammu: Samba SSP Anuj Kumar on Wednesday reviewed security arrangements at key locations in the district as part of the comprehensive preparedness for the forthcoming Amarnath yatra, officials said.

The 57-day pilgrimage is scheduled to commence on July 3 from the twin routes — the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal district — and conclude on August 28 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

During the visit, the SSP was accompanied by senior officials of the district.

As part of the inspection, Kumar visited the national highway checkpoint at Tapyal in Ghagwal and reviewed the security deployment and operational preparedness of police personnel posted there, officials said.

He directed officers and personnel on naka duty to remain vigilant, alert and proactive during duty hours.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Tapyal naka, the SSP said it serves as the entry point for Amarnath pilgrims into Samba district and therefore requires enhanced security measures and strict surveillance.

He stressed the need to strengthen security arrangements at all national highway nakas, particularly at Tapyal, to ensure the safe and smooth movement of pilgrims during the yatra.

The SSP also inspected accommodation sites designated for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and langer and lodgement facilities for pilgrims at Nonath Ashram, Transit Camp Diani, Pallah Morh and Chichi Mata Temple.

During the visit, he reviewed security arrangements at these locations and assessed the availability of basic amenities and infrastructure facilities for pilgrims.

Kumar visited Shilawanti temple at Katli, where he interacted with CAPF personnel and briefed them on their roles and responsibilities during the yatra.
