Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Wednesday directed the J&K Police and UT Administration to further intensify the crackdown against the narco-terror ecosystem operating within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lieutenant Governor was chairing a high-level meeting with the senior officials at Lok Bhavan Srinagar.

The meeting was attended by Shri Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Shri Nalin Prabhat, DGP; Shri Shailendra Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department; Shri Anil Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works (R&B) Department; Shri Ashwani Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Power Development Department; Shri Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary Home Department; Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor; Shri Ram Niwas Sharma, Commissioner/Secretary, School Education Department; Shri M Raju, Commissioner Secretary, Health & Medical Education; Shri Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary Industries & Commerce and other senior officials.

The Lieutenant Governor took appraisal of the progress of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan and emphasized the need for a stronger anti-drug mechanism.

He directed the Director General of Police to further strengthen the Anti-Narcotics Task Force by deploying additional manpower.

Reviewing the rehabilitation measures for drug abuse victims, the Lieutenant Governor directed for scaling up the number of police and health department-run de-addiction and rehabilitation centers across the UT, ensuring regular monitoring by health officials for proper counseling and treatment.

He further directed for identifying and monitoring vulnerable locations like abandoned buildings and river bunds to prevent their misuse for narcotics-related activities. He called for wider public disclosure of high-profile drug peddlers to deter narcotics-related crimes and create greater public awareness.

The Lieutenant Governor entrusted the School and Higher Education Departments to organise sports tournaments and youth engagement programs to steer youth away from drug abuse.
