Srinagar: National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Saturday urged the people to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha with humility in view of the prevailing global situation amid tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking to reporters after paying obeisance at the shrine of Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA) in the Khankah locality here, the NC chief greeted people ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and urged them to observe the festival modestly.

“I appeal to the people to celebrate Eid with humility keeping in view the prevailing situation in the world. Only God knows what will happen in the coming days. So, pray that war between Iran and the US ends and we live peacefully. Peace is the biggest thing,” Abdullah said.

The three-time former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir said he prayed at the shrine for peace across the world and for an end to the “poison of hatred” in the country.

“I prayed that there is peace in the entire world and people live with brotherhood. May God stop the poison of hatred spreading across the country so that we move forward living in brotherhood,” he added.
