Srinagar: Police on Saturday said it has arrested four drug peddlers in Anantnag, Awantipora and Sopore.
A police spokesperson informed that in Anantnag, during checking at Panzgam, police intercepted and later arrested two persons after about 584 grams of Ganja (marijuana)-like substance and about 67 grams of cannabis-like substance were recovered from their possession. The arrested persons were identified as Aijaz Ahmad Wani and Rouf Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Panzgam, Kokernag.
In Awantipora, police arrested Tariq Ahmad Khandey of Bathnoor Tral during checking at Bathnoor–Nagdi Crossing. Around 75 grams of cannabis-like substance and another 460 grams of grinded cannabis were recovered from his possession.
In Sopore, police apprehended a drug peddler near Grid Station Seelo. He was identified as Yawar-ul-Islam Naikoo, resident of Seeloo Sopore. During the search, heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigation, police said.
