Deputy CM seeks time-bound report on Gair Mumkin Khads issues

Srinagar: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Friday chaired a meeting of the Sub-Committee constituted to examine issues related to Gair Mumkin Khads in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting, held at the Civil Secretariat Srinagar, was attended by Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmad Rana and Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Javid Ahmad Dar, who are members of the committee.

During the meeting, the deputy chief minister stressed the need for seeking public suggestions before finalising the committee’s report. He directed that a nodal officer be designated at the Civil Secretariat to facilitate submission of suggestions by the public.

He also instructed officials to submit the report in a time-bound manner while ensuring that genuine public concerns are addressed fairly and legitimately.

Additional Chief Secretary Jal Shakti Shaleen Kabra briefed the committee on the present status of Gair Mumkin Khads and the ongoing process of segregation.

The deputy chief minister emphasised the need for pragmatic and people-centric decisions to ensure resolution of public issues while maintaining a balance between environmental protection and safeguarding livelihoods and property rights.

The committee directed constitution of a technical team for proper segregation of Khads and submission of accurate details. Directions were also issued for identification of chronic problem areas to address recurring public concerns effectively.

Speaking during the meeting, Javed Ahmad Rana stressed the importance of adopting a balanced and environmentally sustainable approach while dealing with issues related to Gair Mumkin Khads.

Minister Javid Ahmad Dar highlighted the importance of transparency, public participation and timely grievance redressal.

The sub-committee discussed the existing status of Gair Mumkin Khads, daryas and nallahs along with related concerns with the objective of providing relief to the public wherever required.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Revenue Department Rajiv Rajan, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Devansh Yadav, Vice Chairman JDA, Chief Engineer I&FC Jammu Rupesh Kumar and other senior officers.
