Sports fields turn into arenas of talent as DYSS Baramulla holds mega zonal competitions

Baramulla: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Baramulla on Wednesday organised a series of inter-school zonal level competitions across various zones of the district under the banner of the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, witnessing massive participation and enthusiasm among students.

The competitions featured events including Kho-Kho, badminton, yoga and table tennis across different age categories.

Zone Sopore organised a four-day Inter-School U-14 and U-17 boys Kho-Kho competition at Government High School Chankhan, where nearly 300 students from different institutions participated and displayed remarkable sportsmanship and competitive spirit.

Meanwhile, Zone Nehalpora conducted an Inter-School U-17 boys badminton tournament at Government Higher Secondary School Nehalpora, attracting around 30 student participants from various schools.

Zone Chandoosa organised U-14 and U-17 boys yoga competitions at Higher Secondary School Chandoosa, where 55 students participated and showcased flexibility, concentration and awareness about physical and mental well-being.

Similarly, Zone Rohama conducted Inter-School U-14 and U-17 boys Kho-Kho competitions at Higher Secondary School Rohama under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan banner, with participation of 227 players from different institutions.

Zone Dangiwacha organised Inter-School U-17 girls Kho-Kho competitions at Cluster Behrampora and Cluster Dangiwacha on the second day of events. A total of 108 students participated in the competitions across both clusters.

In another major sporting event, Zone Baramulla organised inter-school Kho-Kho and table tennis tournaments for U-14 and U-17 boys and girls at Government High School Dewanbagh. Around 170 players representing 11 teams from government and private educational institutions took part in the competitions.

Adding momentum to the district-wide sports activities, Zone Singhpora Pattan conducted U-14 and U-17 boys Kho-Kho competitions at Sports Field Malmooh, witnessing participation of more than 160 students.

Speaking on the occasion, DYSSO Baramulla Mushtaq Ahmed Pampori appreciated the efforts of Zonal Physical Education Officers, technical staff and participating institutions for ensuring the successful conduct of the competitions.

He said such events help in identifying sporting talent at the grassroots level and also play a significant role in channelising the energy of youth towards constructive and healthy activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
