Srinagar: The India Meteorological Department on Tuesday forecast light rain, thundershowers, gusty winds and possible hailstorms at scattered to many places across Jammu and Kashmir till May 21.
An official of the Meteorological Department told Kashmir News Observer that weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy during the period, with spells of light rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds mainly during afternoon and evening hours.
According to the advisory, thunder, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at a few places in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions between May 19 and 21.
The department said weather conditions are likely to remain generally dry during the forenoon from May 22 to 25, although brief afternoon showers may occur at isolated to scattered places.
From May 26 to 28, weather is expected to remain mainly dry, while isolated light rain and thundershowers are likely between May 29 and 31.
The MeT department also warned of hot and dry weather conditions at many places during the next two days, with heatwave conditions expected at isolated places in the Jammu division.
Meanwhile, temperatures continued to remain above normal across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to weather data, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 30.7 degrees Celsius, which was 5.3 degrees above normal, while Qazigund settled at 30.2 degrees Celsius, 5.8 degrees above normal.
Kokernag recorded 29.2 degrees Celsius, Kupwara 28.3 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg 21.6 degrees Celsius and Pahalgam 22.4 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu division, Jammu city recorded 42 degrees Celsius, nearly 4 degrees above normal, while Katra registered 39 degrees Celsius.
Banihal recorded 31 degrees Celsius, Batote 30.6 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah 30.4 degrees Celsius.
In the Ladakh region, Leh recorded a maximum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius, while Nubra Valley settled at 18.1 degrees Celsius.
