Srinagar: Drugs and Food Control Organization has launched a special inspection drive to ensure safe, hygienic and quality food for employees residing in government accommodations and hotels during the ongoing move period.
Officials said the drive was launched on the directions of the Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration, J&K.
Special inspection teams led by Assistant Commissioners Food Safety and comprising Food Safety Officers carried out inspections at multiple food establishments and residential facilities leased by the Estates Department for move employees.
The teams inspected 14 establishments, including Government Residential Quarters Sempora, Pampore, TRC Srinagar and several hotel accommodations hired for lodging employees.
During the inspections, Food Business Operators engaged by the Estates Department were directed to strictly follow provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and related regulations.
Inspection teams stressed maintenance of hygiene and sanitation standards prescribed under Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations.
The operators were also instructed to ensure compliance with standards laid down under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Officials directed all food business operators to provide fresh and hygienic meals to employees and strictly avoid use of synthetic food colours or unsafe ingredients in food items.
The teams also sensitised operators regarding safe food handling practices, cleanliness of kitchens, proper storage of raw materials and maintenance of personal hygiene by food handlers.
The Food Safety Department reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring safe and quality food for employees staying in government accommodations during the move period.
Officials said inspection drives will continue across various locations in the coming days to monitor compliance and enforce food safety regulations effectively.
