Srinagar: Police in Handwara arrested two drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson informed that
In the first operation at Manzgam Crossing Vilgam, police arrested Altaf Ahmad Mir of Matipora Tarathpora. During personal search, a cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.
In another operation at Utingroo Qalamabad, one Naseer Ahmad Ahanger, resident of Audoora Qalamabad was arrested after cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for investigations.
Meanwhile, under the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir’ campaign, police intensified anti-narcotics measures by destroying the illicit poppy cultivations in Kulgam, Shopian, Anantnag, Handwara, and also registered cases under section 8/18 NDPS Act against the people on whose land these poppy cultivation existed.
