Srinagar: Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports Shahid Iqbal Choudhary on Monday felicitated young boxer Mohammad Yaseer for winning a gold medal at the Under-15 Asian Boxing Championship held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The 14-year-old boxer from Rajouri scripted history by clinching gold in the 58-kg category after defeating Uzbekistan in the final bout.

Representing India at the championship, Yaseer displayed exceptional courage and determination to secure the title.

During the felicitation ceremony, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, along with Nuzhat Gul and other officials, congratulated the young athlete and described his success as a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir and the country.

“Yaseer’s journey is truly inspiring. Despite hardships, he has shown extraordinary dedication and commitment towards the sport. His achievement at the Asian level is a testament to his hard work and the immense sporting talent present in Jammu and Kashmir,” Shahid Choudhary said.

He added that the achievement would inspire aspiring athletes across the Union Territory to pursue sports with passion and determination.

The commissioner secretary reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the sports ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir and providing improved infrastructure, exposure and opportunities for young athletes at national and international levels.

The ceremony also acknowledged the contribution of Yaseer’s coaches, family members and support staff in his success.
