Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday congratulated young Rajouri boxer Mohammad Yasser for winning a gold medal at the Under-15 Asian Boxing Championship held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
In his message, the Chief Minister said Yasser’s achievement has brought pride to Jammu and Kashmir and the country, describing it as a reflection of the sporting talent emerging from the region.
He praised the young boxer’s dedication, hard work and determination and expressed hope that the achievement would inspire aspiring athletes across Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar Abdullah also reiterated the government’s commitment towards strengthening sports infrastructure and providing opportunities for youth to excel at national and international levels.
Fourteen-year-old Mohammad Yasser created history by becoming the first boxer from Jammu and Kashmir to win a gold medal at the Under-15 Asian Boxing Championship.
A trainee at the Khelo India Centre Rajouri, Yasser defeated opponents from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Iran before beating host nation Uzbekistan 4-1 in the final to clinch the gold medal in the 58-kg category.
