Srinagar: National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Thursday rejected allegations regarding the constitution of Assembly committees, asserting that the party has consistently strengthened democratic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir over decades.
Rejecting the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma’s allegations over the constitution of Assembly committees as “false accusations”, Sadiq, as reported by the news agency KNO, said committee allocations were made in a balanced way.
The MLA said that comparisons with parliament were being misinterpreted, adding that representation across committees reflects proportional distribution.
“If you look at Parliament, BJP members constitute around 62 percent while others make up 38 percent. Similarly, in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly committees, around 55 percent chairmanship goes to the ruling National Conference, while 44 percent is shared by the opposition and BJP,” he said.
He said these figures clearly demonstrate fairness in representation and dismissed claims of discrimination. “We have never discriminated against anyone. These are the figures. The truth will be clear if numbers are seen objectively,” he said. (KNO)
