Anantnag: Commissioner Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Saurabh Bhagat on Tuesday conducted an extensive tour of Anantnag district to review developmental works and preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2026.
He was accompanied by senior officials of the FCS&CA Department, TSOs and field staff during the visit.
The Commissioner Secretary inspected ongoing works related to augmentation of storage infrastructure, repair and renovation of departmental assets and other logistical arrangements being made to ensure smooth supply of foodgrains and essential commodities during the annual pilgrimage.
As part of the tour, Bhagat carried out surprise inspections of the Chandanwari and Pahalgam granaries, which serve as major dumping sites for storage and dispatch of foodgrains meant for Yatra langars, service providers and government establishments along the pilgrimage route.
During the inspection, he reviewed stock availability, quality control measures, fire safety arrangements and security measures at the storage facilities.
He stressed strict adherence to quality standards, round-the-clock monitoring of stocks and maintenance of adequate buffer stock to meet any emergency situation during the Yatra period.
Expressing satisfaction over the arrangements, the Commissioner Secretary directed officers to ensure 100 per cent dumping of required foodgrains and petroleum products well before the commencement of the Yatra.
He also instructed field functionaries to maintain close coordination with the district administration and other concerned agencies to ensure hassle-free services for pilgrims as well as the local population.
Later, Bhagat inspected various sale outlets in Pahalgam and also visited the office of the Assistant Director FCS&CA.
During the visit, he directed the Assistant Director to identify suitable land for establishment of a Research Institute that would function as a capacity-building centre for departmental employees and workforce in the district.
“The institute will serve as a centre of excellence for in-service training of employees on modern supply chain management, foodgrain quality control, e-PoS operations, end-to-end computerisation of the Public Distribution System, grievance redressal mechanisms and best practices in public distribution,” he said.
